Fundraiser and Auditions announced for Pirates of Penzance!
Broadway RFD is excited to begin work on this year’s summer musical, Pirates of Penzance. “We are already working on many initiatives to make sure that we are continuing to produce the best shows possible,” said Molly Johnson, President of Broadway RFD.
One of Broadway RFD’s initiatives is an ambitious fundraiser to provide money for a complete renovation of the sound and light system. “Our sound and light system have become worn out and we’ve had some problems due to staging shows outdoors,” said Tyler Johnson, a member of RFD’s sound and light committee. “We’re at the point that if we want to continue producing shows, we have to do something.”
Using an online fundraising website called Kickstarter that is specifically designed to help arts projects; RFD is trying to raise $5,000 by June 6 to have the ability to refurbish their technical equipment. “Sound and light are an important part of the creative process in theatre. It’s an aspect that definitely hurts a show when they are in the bad condition ours is,” said Johnson.
In order to thank donors for their help, RFD will be providing gifts based on the amount of money donated. To view the list of gifts, go to www.broadwayrfd.org. “In theatre, we have a saying that there are no small parts, only small actors. We feel the same way about donations!” said Johnson.

Also forthcoming are auditions for Pirates of Penzance. Auditions will be held May 1, 2012 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and May 5, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall. Actors should be 14 by July 20 of this year.
People who are auditioning need to have a small section of music prepared to sing no longer than two minutes in length. An accompanist will be provided at auditions.
Pirates of Penzance will have rehearsals on weekday evenings throughout June and July. Performances for the show will be July 20, 21, 27, and 28 at 8:00 p.m.
